Memphis was a Milan design group of the 1980s, known for clashing colours, squiggles and playful patterns. Memphis Pool Party adds those shapes to a realistic-looking courtyard with arches and blue water, so it is a modern blend rather than a strict example. It is one artwork, in several editions.

Two kinds of picture in one

Dates in a busy, square layout

There is no quiet corner in this picture, so the dates sit on soft islands spread across the square. Print it trimmed to a square or in a square frame. A strong title colour taken from the art, such as the yellow or coral, ties the type into the composition.
